Background
Zoo York started life as a skateboard company back in 1993. The brand name Zoo York was inspired by the subway tunnel in New York which runs right through the famous Central Park Zoo. This tunnel had been a focal point of the ‘old skool' graffiti scene for many years and a melting pot of different creative talents and exciting street art.Zoo York was founded by skateboarders Rodney Smith, Eli Morgan Gessner and Adam Schatz. This was to be one of the first and most relevant East Coast skateboard inspired streetwear brands. Zoo York was based on the lifestyle of the urban skate scene and took its design inspiration mainly from gritty street graffiti. What started out as just a range of Zoo York t-shirts soon grew into an international brand creating urban styling for a whole new generation.
