Zoo York originally started life as a skateboard brand in the early 1990’s. It was named after a famous subway tunnel and dynamic street hangout in New York which ran through to the city zoo. The three founders (Eli Morgan Gessner, Adam Schatz and Rodney Smith) were all skateboarders and heavily into the urban scene. They took their design influences straight from the street and were particularly influenced by urban graffiti.
